Glenn Gould Facilities
“Anyone who wants to log the hours practicing can always find a room.”
Rory McLeod - Alumnus, violist

Extraordinary facilities give our students an edge when it comes to preparing for a professional career. The Glenn Gould School (GGS) is one of the few music schools in North America that is integrated with a major performing arts centre. The superb facilities at The Royal Conservatory’s TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, located in downtown Toronto, give our students every advantage as they develop performance and audition skills.

Performance Spaces

Koerner Hall

Koerner Hall

GGS students enjoy regular access to The Royal Conservatory’s spectacular Koerner Hall, a 1,135-seat venue dubbed “The Temple of Tone” by the Globe and Mail. Koerner Hall’s exceptional acoustics project the softest sounds imaginable, revealing parts of the dynamic range that students may not even be aware existed and, as a result, enabling them to make music in ways they never imagined.

Our students have first access to complimentary concert tickets for performances by acclaimed artists and ensembles such as Christian Tetzlaff, Yo-Yo Ma, Yefim Bronfman, and the Emerson String Quartet. Students also learn by attending professional rehearsals and soundchecks, and by participating in master classes with guest artists.

Mazzoleni Concert Hall

Mazzoleni Concert Hall

Located in The Royal Conservatory’s historic Ihnatowycz Hall, Mazzoleni Concert Hall is a 237-seat concert venue built in 1901. Extensively restored in 1995, its warm brick walls and all-wood stage create an intimate performance setting, making this an ideal space for student recitals, chamber music performances, master classes, and orchestra sectional rehearsals.

Temerty Theatre

Temerty Theatre

With seating for 200, the Temerty Theatre is a multipurpose venue that hosts everything from special lectures to orchestra and opera rehearsals. This intimate space boasts exceptional acoustics.

Practice Spaces

The numerous practice and teaching studios at GGS are bright and airy, featuring clear sound and excellent acoustical separation, with most studios equipped with grand pianos. GGS also has an extensive in-house piano maintenance program, which not only looks after all of the TELUS Centre instruments, but also offers student workshops. Many studios have built-in video and audio recording and video conferencing capabilities. With GGS enrollment capped at 130 students, practice studios are almost always available, including on weekends and holidays.

Learning Spaces

Students enjoy access to the Rupert Edwards Library, which contains 18,000 CDs, 20,000 scores, 6,000 books, 300 DVDs, as well as an extensive collection of online performance resources, orchestral parts, periodicals, and archival materials.

Students also have access to a well-equipped music technology lab with a full complement of music production, notation, sequencing, and office software.
